BSA Pack # 9005

About Us

Thank you for your interest in the Cub Scout Program and Pack 9005.

Pack 9005 has been in exisitence for nearly 20 years. While over half of our families are parishioners of St. Ambrose of Woodbury, many of our Scouts are from several different religious faiths and schools within our community.

Why Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is a fun, outdoor, advancement program that positively affects every area of a boy’s life. The aim of Cub Scouting is to help boys grow into good citizens who are strong in character and personally fit. We accomplish this through a variety of activities, games, “going places”, and most of all FUN. Cub Scouts is a family friendly activity where parents, siblings, and grandparents are always welcome at our events - especially the Pinewood Derby and Blue and Gold Ceremony.

How does Cub Scouting Work?

Cub Scouting is for boys in K – 5. Each Cub Scout is part of a “den” (each is grade specific) of 6-10 boys. Dens meet at least once a month and are introduced to a wide range of activities and award-based challenges that develop their self-responsibility, confidence and service ethic. All Cub Scout dens come together at a “Pack” meeting every month where they are recognized for their individual and group achievements. Dens and the Pack also participate in activities such as field trips, day camps and overnight camps. Currently, Pack 9005 at St. Ambrose of Woodbury, our chartering organization, averages between 60-70 Scouts.

What Activities are Available with Pack 9005?

  • The Pack meets once a month, usually the 3rd Thursday. Meetings are held at St. Ambrose of Woodbury or at an outside venue.
  • The Pack participates in outdoor activities, such as hiking in Afton State Park, Tubing at Green Acres, Bike Rodeo at Lake Elmo Park Reserve, ice fishing and more.
  • Camping is an important part of Scouting for all ages. Pack 9005 offers 2-4 camping events per year. These include Polar Camp (a day camp in January), Cub Scout Resident Camp (a weekend at camp during the summer), Webelo Resident Camp (a camp for Webelo Scouts at Navajo Camp, located at Tomahawk Scout Reservation, during the summer), and a family camp (in June at Lake Elmo Park Reserve).
  • Annual Pinewood Derby and Blue and Gold Banquet (recognition banquet).
  • Dens meets once or twice a month, as well as offer other ‘adventure’ activities (ie. Visit a museum or fire station, go hiking, do community service, etc.).
  • The summer has at least one pack activity per month, including a rocket launch, a water fun night and an outdoor movie night.

What is the Cost?

Pack 9005 charges an annual registration fee. This registration fee covers all expenses throughout the year, except for camping.

  • Pack events and activities
  • Advancement awards
  • Registration with Boy Scouts of America
  • subscription to Boy’s Life Magazine
  • Handbook, neckerchief and slide
  • Den expenses
  • Pack administration

Each boy is required to have a Class A uniform shirt with the required patches. Additional uniform components such as pants, belt, and hat are encouraged, but not required. Class A uniforms may be purchased at a Scout Shop.

Does the Pack Participate in Fundraising?

Our only fundraiser is a Popcorn Sale during the Fall. This is an opportunity for the boys to earn money for their Scout Account and support our Pack.

How are Parents involved?

The Cub Scout program exists because of the great parental involvement that we have. Each family is expected to participate at some level with the Pack. In order for the Pack to operate, we need parents to volunteer as much as they are able to do so.  Tiger Cubs (1st graders) and Lion Cubs (kindergarteners) are required to have an adult partner at all events. Parent attendance at Den and Pack meetings for older boys is strongly encouraged.

How do I Join?

Any boy in kindergarten through fifth grade for the 2021-2022 school year can join Cub Scouts at Pack 9005.  Because we have activities going year round, anytime is a great time to join.  E-mail pack9005@woodbury5.mypack.us to get an application and JOIN THE FUN!
